Particulate Meaurement in Life Sciences Applications
Dispensing Accuracy Measurement
Task: Measure the dispensed concentration of a microbial pathogen and compare to a manual count using a hemacytometer.
Sample: Cryptosporidium parvum, dispensed into filtered water.
Run Conditions: Samples were analyzed directly (no special preparation) at 5X and 14X magnification. Three runs (one ml/run) were analyzed for particle size and concentration. A portion of the sample was analyzed manually via hemacytometer.
Analysis: The size and shape of 32,000 individual particles were measured in approximately 5 minutes. The concentration was found to be 32,641/ml with a RSD of 0.33%. The concentration estimated by hemacytometer was 50,000/ml and required application of a multiplication factor of 10,000 for each particle counted.
