Silica Resin: Selective Image Capture

Task: Determine the instances and degree of agglomeration within a silica based resin suspended within DI water.

Sample: Silica resin composite, highly spherical and tightly distributed (5% CV) around a mean size of 3.75µm.

Run Conditions: Samples were diluted with DI water filtered to 0.22µm and analyzed at 5X magnification.  Image capture was triggered upon detection of particles outside the size range of the primary particle population.  

Analysis: Visual inspection of ‘out-of-spec’ particles and analysis of their relative circularity showed that 25% of the particle population was improperly dispersed.
