Reaction Monitoring

Particle Change during Coagulation / FlocculationTask: Monitor the changes in particle size and concentration in real-time during a coagulation and flocculation process.

Sample: Kaolin clay dosed with alum, mixed rapidly for 1 minute then permitted to form floc.

Run Conditions: The mixing chamber was sampled directly during the experiment and the results were compiled at two minute intervals.  Images were stored at 10 second intervals.

Analysis: The concentration dropped from 750,000 particles per ml to 50,000 particles per ml over a 30 minute period.  Representative images illustrate the formation and character of floc produced.
